Interesting! I am a piano player who suffered a brain tumor 20 years ago. I pretty much totally recovered, with the exception that my right- and left-hand independence was shot. I couldn't even type. I discovered that playing bass didn't give me trouble, so I did that for many years. The piano playing has since come back, but I totally get how music performance relies on the two halves of the brain working in concert (so to speak).
